Wolf of the Wild Hunt

So Jeremy (~Nviermor) came up with the theme for this year's faire. I'd been wanting to do a wild fae for a while now, I was getting really tired of the children wanting to sit on me like I was Santa. So I wanted something on the more feral less-then-friendly side of faerieland. And I wanted to wear pants. The Wild Hunt theme offered just that.

We choose Winter for our seasonal theme as well, so I went all the way. White leather bodice, shoulder pauldron, bracer, belt, frog and pouch. I made the design, Jeremy made a pattern for two friends that are starting their own leather working business. I got to do the painting and finishing on all the leather bits. Jeremy made epoxy ice knives, and I even added epoxy icicles on the ends of my hair. The idea was anything this character touches for a long time slowly gets covered in ice. And I had some folks believing that too. I was kinda frosty to the touch that day. It was only like 65 out and very overcast. So that really added to the costume and helped me blend with the all white look.....with a little blue for fun.

The fundamental premise in all instances is the same: a phantasmal,spectral group of huntsmen with the accoutrements of hunting, horses, hounds, etc., in mad pursuit across the skies or along the ground, or just above it....Seeing the Wild Hunt was thought to presage some catastrophe such as war or plague, or at best the death of the one who witnessed it. Mortals getting in the path of or following the Hunt could be kidnapped and brought to the land of the dead. A girl who saw Wild Edric's Ride was warned by her father to put her apron over her head to avoid the sight. Others believed that people's spirits could be pulled away during their sleep to join the cavalcade."
